What is the NCard? What can I use the NCard for?

The NCard is designed to be UNL's permanent photo identification card. It is valid as long as individuals are a registered student or employed at UNL. The NCard system is campus-wide and is used by campus departments and businesses for identification, access and optional services such as purchasing and educational discounts. The NCard is nontransferable and is the property of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

How do I get my NCard?

NCards can be obtained by going to the NCard Office located in Room 121, of the Nebraska Union at 14th & R Street. To obtain your NCard you must be a registered student or current employee or Affiliate at UNL. You will need to present one form of photo identification such as a driver's license or passport.

Lost or Stolen

What should I do if my NCard is lost or stolen?

The NCard is valuable and should be protected from theft and misuse. Loss or theft of the NCard must be reported immediately to the NCard Office in person, by phoning 472-7331, or online. After hours, loss or theft of the NCard may still be reported by calling 472-7331 and leaving a message on the voice mail system. Promptly reporting the card missing will protect you from improper charges to you NCard Campus Account and other misuses of the NCard. You may be responsible for the first $50 in transactions made with your card until loss or theft is reported to the NCard Office. If your NCard is linked to a Wells Fargo checking account, report the missing card to Wells Fargo immediately.

If I lost my current NCard, but found a previous one, can I activate the previous NCard?

No, once a new NCard has been made it becomes your current card and cancels all previous cards. Previous cards are canceled to prevent anyone else from using your misplaced card.

How do I remove a lost or stolen flag from my NCard?

You must go to the NCard Office in person to request the flag be removed. You will need to present your found NCard to be entered back into the system.

NCard Campus Account

How do I use my NCard to charge on campus?

Registered students and employees may open an NCard Campus Account for use at University operated services and affiliated vendors.

How do I pay off my purchases?

Purchases charged using your Campus Account enabled NCard appear monthly on your Student Accounts Consolidated Bill or as a payroll deduction for employees.

What is my spending limit?

As of August 1, 2008 you have a $300 spending limit to purchase goods and services per month using your NCard Campus Account.

Can I request an increase on the spending limit?

No. The NCard Campus Account system does not allow for fluctuating spending limits.

How does this limit affect my ability to purchase my textbooks and get them on my Consolidated Bill?

The NCard can still be used to purchase your textbooks. The cost for textbooks does not go against your $300 spending limit which means you can purchase your textbooks without the worry of maxing out your spending limit.

How do I use my NCard to order my textbooks online?

  1. You must have an NCard Campus Charge Account. If not, create one at online or at our office. This only takes a minute to do. Once the account is created online, please allow one hour for the systems to synchronize.
  2. When ordering online at www.unlbookstore.com, use the 8 digit NU ID when asked for the card number.
  3. The NCard Campus Account has a $1,000 limit set for textbooks. If this isn't enough, please contact the bookstore at 402-472-7300.
  4. If you receive a "page no longer available" error, please delete your temporary internet files (IE: Tools-Internet Options-General Tab) and try again.
  5. If you receive an error stating that your tender type can not be verified, please confirm that you have an NCard Campus Charge Account and that you have correctly entered your 8 digit NUID. If you are still receiving an error message, please contact the bookstore at 402-472-7300.

NCard Linked To A Wells Fargo Account

How can I get more info about linking my NCard to a Wells Fargo Account?

Visit Wells Fargo's website, their branch in the Nebraska Union near the south entrance, or call the campus branch at 402-434-4532.

Do I have to get an account with Wells Fargo with the NCard?

No, whether to link the NCard to a Wells Fargo account is a decision totally up to the individual.

Can I use my NCard that has been linked to my Wells Fargo College Checking account to purchase my textbooks online?

The NCard linked to a Wells Fargo College Checking account is strictly a debit card and cannot be used for online transactions. Your bank-issued Wells Fargo Check Card can be used for online transactions instead.

However, if you have set up an NCard Campus Charge Account you can use your 8 digit NU ID number to charge textbooks online to your Student Accounts Consolidated Bill as described here.

Can I use the NCard off campus?

Students and employees have the option of linking their NCard to a Wells Fargo College checking or Membership Checking account. The NCard can be used as a PIN-based debit card for ATM use on-campus and purchases off-campus. If the debit card feature is chosen, Wells Fargo provides free services such as electronic bill paying, unlimited check writing and free Wells Fargo ATM transactions.

If I have a Wells Fargo account and leave UNL, can I still use my NCard as my Wells Fargo debit card?

If you leave UNL the NCard will no longer work with your Wells Fargo Account. At that point you would be able to use your Wells Fargo issued debit card or could order one if you don't already have one.

NCard Campus Account vs. NCard Wells Fargo Account

What is the difference between the Wells Fargo account and the NCard Campus Account?

If you elect to add the Wells Fargo account feature and have the card linked at a Wells Fargo Bank, the NCard will become a PIN-based debit card, requiring a balance in a Wells Fargo bank account to cover the purchases. It is not a credit card.

The NCard Campus Account is used to pay for on-campus purchases through Consolidated Billing for students and payroll deduction for employees.

When I purchase items at the University Bookstore, how will I know which account it's coming out of?

Let the University Bookstore cashier know whether you prefer to use your NCard Campus Account or Wells Fargo College Checking Account. By selecting the NCard Campus Account the cost for your textbooks will go onto your Student Accounts Consolidated Bill. By selecting your Wells Fargo College Checking Account you'll need to enter your Wells Fargo PIN and the funds will come out of your Wells Fargo checking account.

Students

What happens if I change my name?

Student name changes need to be made at Student Records in Room 107 of the Canfield Administration Building. Student Records will give you a pink copy of your Name change form to bring to the NCard office. You will need to present your pink copy of the form along with your old NCard. The NCard office will trade out the old card for a new one. If you do not have an old NCard, you must present one form of identification such as a driver's license or passport.

Now that I am a graduate student, can I use the same NCard I used as an undergraduate?

Yes, the NCard is your permanent UNL identification card that you receive once when you enroll at UNL. NCards are activated by registration status. The card becomes active the first day of the term you are registered. The same card can be used even after time has been taken off from school.

Parents

As a parent, can I view my student's Consolidated Bill online?

Consolidated Bills are generated by the 25th of each month and are available for immediate viewing on WAM. Students will be notified via e-mail when a bill is available to view each month. Students may grant parents and others access to their student bill and online payment options through WAMS. The student must provide the parent with their 8-digit NUID number and password.

Faculty/Staff

Do I get a student NCard if I am Faculty/Staff taking classes?

No, Faculty/Staff going through the tuition remission program are not eligible for student privileges. The Faculty/Staff NCard will show registration status when it is scanned.

How Can I use my Affiliate NCard?

The NCard is designed to be your permanent UNL photo identification card. The NCard system is campus-wide and is used by campus departments and offices to verify the cardholder's identification. The NCard is nontransferable and is the property of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Now that I am a student or faculty/staff, do I need a new NCard?

Yes, the NCard is your permanent UNL identification card that you received when you became affilated with UNL. You were issued a special Affiliate NCard and you will now need to receive a Student or Faculty/Staff NCard.
